In-Person Tutoring COVID-19 Prevention Plan

Student Connection is taking a proactive approach to preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus and has created policies to ensure the safety of our tutors and tutees in the event that in-person tutoring is possible during the 2020-2021 school year. The following protocols are based on recommendations by the Center for Disease Control (CDC), the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), World Health Organization (WHO), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other health organizations as information is published.

COVID-19 Virtual Tutoring Plan

Due to Covid-19 restrictions, students in Washington will be learning from home during the first part of the 2020-2021 school year, which limits interaction between teachers and students.  Students will have limited access to the in-person academic support that they previously received on school campus.

Online schooling poses many problems for children who are struggling with their schoolwork and do not have access to additional academic support at home. To provide extra academic support to low-income students during online-learning, Student Connection has created a virtual tutoring plan that allows students to remotely access our free tutoring service.

School districts ensure that every student is provided with internet and a laptop, making it possible for tutors and tutees to connect online. To reach students remotely, Student Connection will tutor through Zoom. All tutors will be given a virtual tutoring training so they can learn how to use the following interactive tools to be as effective as possible.

Screen Sharing: Screen sharing will improve tutor to tutee interaction and tutor assistance. The tutee will be able to show the tutor their assignments, making it easy for the tutor to view their work and give advice. Tutors can use whiteboard features to demonstrate how to do homework problems.

White Board: Online whiteboard tools will improve communication by making it possible to work out homework problems and create visuals and examples.

Extra online Academic resources: Our tutors will be given a list of recommended websites and resources to use during tutoring sessions. The websites will help the tutors assist the tutees academic needs, provide study tools, and improve learning. For example, online websites such as Quizlet and Kahn academy will be recommended.
